Memorial Day Thoughts From Honolulu

Many think of the Memorial Day holiday as the beginning of summer and the weekend when the Indianapolis 500 is run.  It’s so easy to forget the origin of the holiday altogether.  Memorial Day holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service to our country.  It first began to honor Union soldiers who died during the Civil War.  After World War I, the holiday was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action.

So, tomorrow, before you begin your planned holiday activities with friends and family, I hope you’ll pause for just a moment to honor and remember U.S. soldiers, sailors and airmen who paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy.  Taking this one step further, let’s honor and pray for the wellbeing of our military forces stationed around the world in defense of our great nation.  It’s the least we can do, considering the things they sacrifice each day.
