Waikiki is located on the south shore of Oahu between the Ala Wai Canal and Diamond Head. This beachfront neighborhood is well known for its white sand beach, surfing and for being a hub of activity. The main avenues in Waikiki are lined with numerous shopping and dining options and the beachfront is lined with luxury hotels and high-rise apartment buildings.

Historically, Waikiki was a spot for Hawaiian royalty who enjoyed surfing and vacationing in the area. The first hotels and resorts came to Waikiki in the 1880s and 1890s. Currently the Waikiki area attracts residents looking for the quintessential Hawaiian lifestyle, one which includes the beach, views and plenty to do.

Kapiolani Park is a popular spot on the eastern edge of Waikiki and is the oldest public park in Hawaii. At 300 acres, Kapiolani Park is also the largest park on Oahu, offering great views of Diamond Head and a large amount of open space on which to play, picnic and stroll. The park has been home to cricket matches and horse racing in the past and is currently home to the Honolulu Zoo.

Visitors to Oahu are drawn to Waikiki for a number of reasons, the least of which is the shopping, dining and nightlife. Waikiki is known for being a shopper’s paradise, with luxury brands and unique boutiques.

Waikiki residents have access to six elementary schools, one middle school and one high-school. President Thomas Jefferson Elementary School is known for being a top rated school in the area. The majority of homes in Waikiki are condos or apartments and many come with a view. Waikiki real estate is driven by buyers who want to be in the midst of the action near one of the most sought after beaches in the area.
